hijacked Turkish ship heading towards Somalia
The Turkish ship hijacked by Somalian pirates in the early hours of Tuesday morning is heading towards Somalia.
New reports are coming through that the Malta flagged Turkish Cargo ship, MV Frigia, is heading towards Somalia with the 21 crew members, 19 Turks and two Ukrainian’s.
Ayhan Ugurlubay, a spokesman for the Karya Denizcilik shipping company who owns MV Frigia said “I cannot confirm that the ship has been hijacked as no one is answering my calls, but I can confirm that the ship signalled an emergency alarm today at 03.37 hours. I can also confirm that the ships rota has changed from Thailand to Somalia.”
Most of the crew were employees of the Izmir / Turkey based company.
Deniz News Agency have also announced on their website that their Executive Producer, Recep Canpolat of the News Agent got hold of the Pirates via a phone call.
According to Deniz News Agency, the pirate’s spokesman only known as Muhammed said that they have siezed control of the ship full of fertilisers and that all the crew are safe and being looked after well.
The pirates spokesman did not say anything about where the ship is heading.
