Greece will relax further corona measures from May 1st
Athens announces a comprehensive easing of corona measures. However, the obligation to provide proof upon entry remains in place until further notice. What other regulations apply to travelers and what the corona situation is in the country
From May 1st, people in Greece will no longer need to show proof of vaccination to visit bars, shops and museums. Health Minister Thanos Plevris has now announced this. The mask requirement indoors, on the other hand, is only to be lifted from June 1st. This does not apply to facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes.
The Greek Easter – this year on April 24th – will still be celebrated under the existing conditions, said the minister. The lifting of the measures is to be put to the test on September 1st. For holidaymakers in Greece, it has already been decreed that they no longer have to register on a government website before entering the country. However, the submission of proof of vaccination or current rapid and PCR tests will remain in place until further notice.
Entry into Greece
Fully vaccinated people no longer need a negative PCR or rapid antigen test upon entry. However, unvaccinated people must continue to do so. The PCR tests must not be older than 72 hours upon entry, rapid tests must not be older than 24 hours. Vaccinated people whose vaccination certificate is no longer valid in their own country due to a lack of a booster vaccination must also present a negative test upon entry.
The current corona situation in Greece
The number of new corona infections in Greece has fallen again in recent weeks. As of April 13, the country recorded 15,331 new cases. The seven-day incidence is currently 783.9. So far there have been a total of 3,195,887 confirmed corona infections in Greece and 28,274 people have died so far from the infection.
The Corona rules in Greece
In Greece, all restaurants, taverns and bars are currently forced to close at midnight. Guests are not allowed to stand, but only to be served at the table. Music is forbidden. In shops, supermarkets and public transport, it is still compulsory to wear an FFP2 mask or a double surgical mask until the end of May. In addition, non-immunized citizens are only allowed to enter facilities such as authorities, banks and retail stores with a negative corona test.
Visits to interior spaces for leisure activities, i.e. restaurants, cinemas, clubs or museums, are only possible until the end of April for those who have been vaccinated or have recovered. The 2G rule applies here.
