Girl rescued 15 days after Haiti quake
A teenage girl has survived 15 days under a house that collapsed on top of her during the Haiti earthquake.
The girl a teenager named as Darlene Etienne was dehydrated, looked desperately under weight and had a broken left leg.
The girl is still a glimmer of hope after the devastating earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti which has killed 200,000 people.
Rescuers were called in after neighbours heard cry’s for help by the teenager. The rescue workers who pulled the girl out of the rubble have described her as, under weight, happy, crying and in shock.
The team that dug out Etienne also have reportedly said that they dug a hole big enough to give the teenager some oxygen and water, her pulse was very weak. One worker even said she wouldn’t have survived if we were a little more late.
The girl was taken to the French military field hospital where she is reported as being “OK”.
Her survival was mainly due to her not being crushed by the rubble that fell, and that by shear luck there was
space for her to lie down.
