Gheorghe Hagi appointed as new manager at Galatasaray

Galatasaray have officially signed Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi as the clubs manager after the Turkish giants parted ways with Dutch manager Frank Rijkaard.

Galatasaray’s official website www.galatasaray.org had a huge image of Hagi in the front page saying “Gheorghe Hagi is at Galatasaray”

A statement at the official Galatasaray webpage wrote “Gheorghe Hagi has been appointed as the new Galatasaray A team manager along with Tugay Kerimoğlu as his assistant”

“A ceremony will be organized at the press meeting room in the Florya Metin Oktay training ground on Friday 22 October at 15.30.”

This is the second time Gheorghe Hagi will be manager of the Istanbul club after his contract was terminated at the end of the 2004-2005 season due to the Romanian not being able to match the clubs demands.

During the 2004-2005 season in which Hagi managed Galatasaray, he was able to steer his side into the 2005 Turkish Cup final and managed to win fierce rivals Fenerbahçe 5-1.

The legendary playmaker, Hagi was one of the masterminds of the Galatasaray team which won the UEFA Cup (UEFA Europa Cup) in 2000.

Hagi will be on an uphill mission with Galatasaray who are struggling in the Turkish Super League with two losses in the last two league games and with an Istanbul derby against rivals Fenerbahçe in the weekend.
