The transfer of winger Pablo Pino has come as welcomed news with Galatasaray fans and players feeling the pressure of not being able to win any silver wear in two years.

The 23-year-old winger is reported to have agreed to join the Turkish giants, but no details were reveled from either Galatasaray or AS Monaco.

Pino who arrived to Istanbul on Monday is said to be going through a medical check before he signs the papers to officially make the winger a Lion.

Galatasaray’s Dutch manager Frank Rijkaard had also received much stick from Galatasaray fans and the media for his attitude last season when Galatasaray finished the Turkish Super League in third position.

Frank Rijkaard had said “I do not see this season (2009-10) to be a failure, last season (2008-09) we finished in 5th position this year we finished 3rd.”

However, more big name transfers are expected by the Turkish club as Pino and Galatasaray’s first foreign transfer of the season, Albanian Lorik Cana from Sunderland are seen as small transfers to help the club but not to lead.

Australia International, Harry Kewell who is a fans favorite has also made the Galatasaray community happy after extending his contract by a year.

The 31-year-old former Liverpool attacking midfielder who played a small part in Australia’s 2010 World Cup campaign had been rumored to leave the Istanbul club after spending much of last season on the bench due to a groin injury.

However, as the Australian International was able to play in the World Cup even though for a short period, the Turkish side opted to extend his contract.

Kewell is also said to be very happy with staying at Galatasaray and was reported to have said “There was a lot of interest out there which is nice but the key for me in the end was the great relationship I have with the fans here in Istanbul and with the coach Frank Rijkaard,

“In my view they are the best supporters I’ve ever seen and the way they have embraced me in my time at the club means a lot to me and played a huge part in my decision.

“I felt that missing half the season with Galatasaray was a low point and I always wanted to give the club and the fans the last right of refusal.

However Kewell also said that he was a little disappointed that the Turkish club did not extend his contract by two years.

“I was of course disappointed I didn’t get offered a two-year deal which was the initial plan back in December but I totally understand the club’s position.”

Argentinean goalkeeper Leo Franko departs from Galatasaray to Real Zaragoza.
Argentinean goalkeeper Leo Franko, who was transferred with great hope in 2009, was said to have left the Turkish club on mutual consent and transferred to La Liga side Real Zaragoza.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper had played much of the season, but had lost his touch with the fans and board members at the Istanbul club after a very faulty goal that he conceded against fierce rivals Fenerbahçe.
