Eintracht Frankfurt has achieved what was considered impossible: the club kicked out FC Barcelona and is one of the top four teams in Europe. After the win, coach Glasner apologized to Barça.
Oliver Glasner made the “Diver”. When his professionals lined up for him and the fans shouted his name loudly, the Eintracht Frankfurt coach didn’t show any weakness and slid head first onto the green pitch. Players and fans cheered, but for the head coach from Austria there was also a loss in the spontaneous action after the 3-2 coup at FC Barcelona.
“The pants are broken now, but it doesn’t matter,” Glasner later told RTL. In view of the entry into the Europa League semi-finals, he should be able to get over it.
“It wasn’t my intention at all”
After there had been some discussions with fellow coach Xavi Hernandez down in the coaching zone, Glasner was keen to clarify something: He apologized if he might have something to do with the third goal – Filip Kostic’s 3-0 win in the meantime clearly cheered in the direction of Barcelona-Bank. “That was in no way my intention,” said the 47-year-old.
Glasner, who only came to Hesse from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer and thus left a Champions League club, was proud: “It’s burned into my heart forever. I’ll take these feelings with me until I hopefully go one floor higher at some point am,” Glasner said.
More than 25,000 Eintracht fans had experienced the success live at the Camp Nou. “In this symbiosis we celebrated this huge success and this great victory,” said Glasner. Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp also said in relation to the fans who had traveled: “I thought I was in Frankfurt.”
