The first luxurious hotel, first of its kind  has been set up and thrown open at world famous ski resort and hill station Gulmarg in Indian administered Kashmir.

Srinagar/Dec 21/Nationalturk- In what may be a good news for high-end tourists of the world, the first luxurious hotel, first of its kind  in Indian administered Kashmir, has been set up and thrown open at world famous ski resort and hill station Gulmarg.

The first of its kind five star (deluxe) resort named “The Khyber: Himalayan Resort and Spa” and owned by Khyber Group of Industries was thrown open by Chief Minister of the region Omar Abdullah yesterday.

The high-end resort, which is spread over 60 kanals of land and completed at a whopping budget of Rupees 120 crores (INR),  is likely to boost the tourism in the militancy-hit Kashmir. The luxurious hotel has 85 super deluxe rooms with most modern facilities such as indoor swimming pool, a home theatre, a children playing belt and lot many villas surrounding it.

A gymnasium and a spa would be operational by the year end.

The hotel presents a blend of Kashmiri heritage and modernity, which has been put together brilliantly. The wood and green colored architecture is a pristine property coming off so well with the delicate environment that surrounds it. Besides, the hotel has a modern sewerage plant to ensure environmental safety in the area.

Khyber collaborated with  US-based Hotel group

Khyber has collaborated with JHM, a United States Hotel group, which owns the Crown Plaza, Hyatt Regency, Marriot, Renaissance hotels across the globe. The JHM property spreads across 410 hotels with 77000 rooms in US, China, Europe and India.

“It is one of the 613 small luxury hotels of the world of which only five are in India. With the start of Khyber Resorts, Gulmarg can now expect high-end foreign skiers,” a senior executive of hotel said.

The hotel owner Umar Trumboo said it took them four complete years to make the hotel operational. “Some of the things are yet to be accomplished but the process is on. We are sold out until January 5,” he said.

The local and tourists in Kashmir have been preferring to welcome New Year in Gulmarg during past few years. Due to this reason, the rush of tourists in Gulmarg increases manifold ahead of New Year.

Trumboo said the luxurious hotel will be the first resort in Gulmarg to offer comforts and facilities that an international traveller seeks. “We have attended to every detail to make this resort truly unique,” he said.

He said the guests will experience luxury on a par with international standards and personalised service that hasn’t been seen in Gulmarg.

Prices range between Rs 14500 to 1,05000 per night.

Three kinds of rooms are available at Khyber Resort —  premier rooms, luxury balcony rooms, luxury cottages and presidential cottages. The prices range between Rs 14500 to 1,05000 per night.

The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Khyber Resorts is the best in Kashmir and northern India. “It is one of the best resorts in India,” he said.

He said about 1.2 million tourists visited Kashmir this year. “We expect record number of tourists to visit the region next year”.
