Fire destroys 5 stores on Ankara’s Çıkrıkçılar Hill
A fire broke out early Tuesday morning on Ankara’s historic Cikrikcilar Hill in Altındag, destroying five adjoining stores and damaging two others before firefighters were able to extinguish the flames.
The fire broke out in a shop at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday and quickly spread to several others.
Firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze but had difficulty navigating the historic area’s narrow streets. The firefighters finally extinguished the blaze after five hours, but five stores had already burnt to the ground by that time.
According to the initial findings of an investigation into the incident, five stores are unusable while two others suffered water damage. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
