The Holland Vs Uruguay Semi Final will take place on Tuesday evening as both teams are preparing for a show down at a level which probably non had expected to reach before the competition had started.
Uruguay, with no doubt is the surprise name in the Semi Final with the South American side reaching the semis of the World Cup for the first time in 40 years.
However though Holland are favorites to win against Uruguay, it is fair to say that at this level, you can expect the un-expected.
How many football fans actually believed Holland will reach the semis of the World Cup with the likes of Brazil, Italy, France, England, Argentina and Portugal in the favorites list to lift the trophy?
The Dutch manager, Bert van Marwijk have brought the best out of the national side but with the likes of Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Robin Van Persie, Dirk Kuyt, Mark Van Bommel and other very talented individuals, was it really a surprise?
I think not. Holland had a very easy Group stage getting maximum points by beating Denmark 2-0, Japan 1-0 and Cameroon 2-1. But it can be said that the group was not exactly the most difficult.
In the round of 16 stage or Knock out stage of the World cup the Dutch managed to beat Slovakia 2-1 but Holland were fortunate in some areas as the Slovaks did miss some important chances.
Considering, Slovakia were responsible for the dramatic exit of the Italians, it can be said that they could have created a surprise.
Holland then faced Brazil in the Quarter Finals where even though the Dutch fell behind after a Robinho goal in the first half.
However, the Holland side showed the character which could eventually make them World Champions by scoring two goals including a rememberable header by Sneijder in what looked to be a training ground exercise.
Holland will be without suspended Gregory Van Der Wiel and midfielder Nigel De Jong but Van Persie is expected to play despite an injury scar in the weekend.
Uruguay are also a very talented side compared to Holland, on paper anyway.
Uruguay drew against France 0-0 but were able to defeat South Africa 3-0 and Mexico 1-0 and went to the last 16 in first place.
The SouthAmerican side beat South Korea 2-1 but were really tested and in-fact very fortunate against Ghana as they were able to beat the last African side in the competition 4-2 on penalties.
In the final seconds of extra time, Ghana received a penalty after Luis Suarez handballed the ball, preventing a goal for Ghana. Suarez was in tears while being led out after receiving a red for the incident but was then seen cheering after Ghana penalty ace, Asamoah Gyan missed the penalty.
The referee blew the whistle and then came the penalties where Uruguay triumphed 4-2
Uruguay are missing four first eleven players from the squad through suspension or injury consisting of Luis Suarez, Jorge Fucile, Nicolas Lodeiro and Diego Lugano.
The Holland Vs Uruguay match will be played at the Cape Town Stadium, in Cape town South Africa with a capacity of 64,100.
The game will be refereed by 32-year-old Uzbekistan official, Irmatov in his fifth match of the tournament.
The game will kick off at 8:30pm local time (TR time – 9:30pm : UK time 7:30pm) with the winner reaching the finals.
