Fatah meets rivals Hamas in Gaza

Fatah meets rivals Hamas in Gaza A senior member of the Palestinian movement Fatah is meeting leaders of its rival Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

It is the first time the two factions have met in Gaza since Hamas took control there in 2007.

Fatah, led by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, was forced out of the territory by Hamas gunmen shortly after Hamas’ election win.

Fatah official Nabil Shaath is known for his role as chief negotiator in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Egypt has been mediating talks between the two factions, but no reconciliation deal has been agreed.
