New Delhi, Feb 20/Nationalturk – In what is not a good sign for Indian economy, the exports of Indian readymade goods dropped last year and goods worth US dollar 12397.35 were exported.
According to Indian Minister of State of Textile Panabaaka Lakshmi , readymade garments worth US dollar 11026.29 were exported in 2010-11.
“The figure stood US dollar 13083.49 in 2011-12 and dropped to US dollar 12397.35 in 2012-13,” she said.
‘Regular review on performance of clothing exports’
She said there is regular review on the performance of clothing exports.
“Indian government is taking various steps in consultation with clothing industry to expand exports of clothing products. Several measures have been taken to boost the export of textile and clothing of India”.
“Market Linked Focus Product Scheme (MLFPS) has been extended till 31st March 2014 for export to USA and EU in respect of items falling in Chapter 61 and Chapter 62 (textiles and clothing),” the minister said.
‘Garment exports expected to achieve its target’
She said despite the global slowdown, garment export industry is performing good and is expected to achieve its target of USD 17000 million set for the current financial year.
“Good results are expected in the next financial year also,” she further said.
The Indian minister said Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Pakistan, Asian Group of Countries, Philippines have been added to the list of countries for export of Woven Cotton Fabrics under Market Linked Focus Product Scheme.
“27 EU countries have been added in the list for export of Gloves, Mittens and Mitts of Cotton filled with cotton fibre under MLFPS. About 15 new products related to Textile Sector have been added under Focus Product Scheme on 18.4.2013,” she added.
