A convict who escaped from an open prison has been taunting the police by posting a picture of himself in the sun with his Christmas dinner.
Craig “Lazie” Lynch, 28, dubbed the Facebook Fugitive was serving a seven year sentence for aggravated burglary at Hollesley Bay open prison in Suffolk when he disappeared on September 24 2009.
The fugitive has managed to successfully evade the Suffolk police force ever since his escape, even though he has been putting regular status updates on a social networking website. On Christmas Day he posted the picture of himself with the turkey, writing underneath: “If any of you was doubtin’ my freedom. Here’s proof.”
On the same day Lynch, who now has 1,247 Facebook friends, boasted how he had made it to Christmas and beaten the system. “I love it,” he added. Also on Facebook a “Craig Lazie Lynch is no hero” group has been set up to condemn support for him. Police said routine checks were being made at his known addresses.
