The UK will host the Eurovision Song Contest next year. This is now confirmed by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the British BBC. An exact venue for the event is not yet known, but the host city competition is set to begin this week.
“On behalf of this year’s winner, the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC”, the United Kingdom will take on the next Eurovision Song Contest. In mid-June it became known that the ESC 2023 would not take place in the winning country. The reason given was security concerns with a view to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The Ukraine, whose band Kalush Orchestra won the ESC 2022 with the song “Stefania”, is still automatically qualified for the grand final.
Britain’s BBC then got into the act because UK candidate Sam Ryder had come second with the song “Space Man”. Not the first time, by the way, that Britain has taken over.
“Ukraine is to be celebrated and represented throughout the event”
“In this tradition of solidarity, we know that next year’s competition will showcase the creativity and skill of one of Europe’s most experienced public broadcasters, while ensuring that this year’s winners, Ukraine, are celebrated and celebrated throughout the event be represented”, Martin Österdahl, the head of the ESC, is quoted as saying.
Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC and the BBC will work closely together to include Ukrainian elements in next year’s shows. The logo will be revealed in due course. This is also intended to express the cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
