England won the second test match against India on a spinning track in Mumbai by 10-wickets on Monday.
Mumbai, Nov 26/NationalTurk- The English spinners Monty Panesar and Swann helped their country level the 4 match test series against India by winning the second match in a turning track in Mumbai by 10 wickets on Monday.
The English win has put a big question mark on Indian capital M S Dhoni’s decision to seek more turning tracks for test series. The English batsmen are known for not playing the spin well.
Earlier, this year, Pakistan had thrashed England by winning all the three test matches on turning tracks in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in UAE.
Resuming from 117 for seven after conceding a vital 86-run first innings lead, the Indian’s remaining batsmen were out cheaply to English spinners this morning. The team was bundled out for patrol paltry 141, thereby setting England an easy target of 57 for victory.
The English opening pair of Alastair Cook (18) and Nick Compton (30) knocked the target in just 9.4 overs without much fuss.
The triumph triggered jubilation in the England dressing room with the players hugging each other and celebrating a remarkable victory.
According to cricket analysts, Indians were thoroughly outplayed in their own den by English men. The English spinners Panesar and Swann accounted for 19 wickets in two innings while their batsmen Cook and Kevin Peitersen played a big match-winning innings.
The third test will be held in Kolkata from December 5.
Panesar was difference between two teams: Dhoni
Indian skipper MS Dhoni said English spinner Monty Panesar was as the main difference between the sides
“The way Monty bowled, he was different from all the other bowlers. All other bowlers were getting a bit of bounce and turn but Monty was bowling at real pace. He was bowling close to 90-95kph and even above that and still he was able to get some turn so he was someone who had a big impact on the game. The other bowlers got wickets but they never troubled the other batsmen as Monty did,” Dhoni told post-match presentation ceremony.
He said if we assess the bowling of Monty, it was doing a lot.
However, he said there would be no let-up in his call for spinning pitches as it presented the fairest test of the quality of the two sides.
“I think this was a very good wicket. Both the teams had equal chances. Still we would like a typical sub-continental wicket, it needs to turn and like I always say it should turn from the first day so there is no importance of the toss and it is up to the two teams, whichever plays better cricket wins the game. It will be tough to play on wickets like these but that is what Test cricket is all about,” he said.
However, Indian skipper Dhoni ruled out any sweeping changes in the side for third test in Kolkata.
