Pakistan’s Electricity department has disconnected electricity to Prime Ministers House, President’s House and other government institutions for non payment of electricity tariff.
Islamabad, April 29/Nationalturk -: In a major decision, Pakistan’s Electricity department has disconnected electricity to Prime Ministers House, President’s House and other government institutions for non payment of electricity tariff.
Pakistan Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali ordered Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO) today to disconnect electricity supply to the President House for non payment of electricity tariff.
He also has ordered that the electricity supply of Parliament lodges, Sindh House, Balochistan House, National Database Registration Authority, Motorway police and the Capital Development Authority should also be disconnected for non payment of electricity fee.
Ali also instructed officials to disconnect electricity supply to Frontier Works Organisation, Petroleum Commission, Public Works Department, TMO Muree, TMO Rawalpindi and environment office.
The electricity supply to the Parliament House was disconnected on Tuesday. The power supply to country’s Apex Court was also disconnected but at the insistence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, it was restored.
‘Campaign against electricity defaulters on PM’s directives’
“The campaign against electricity defaulters and power thieves had begun on the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and action would be taken against those usurping the rights of the people,” Ali told reporters today.
He said Prime Minister’s Secretariat owed Rs 6.2 million (Pakistan currency) in dues and residence of Chief Justice of Pakistan owed a bill of R s1.1 million. “CDA owed Rs360 million and Parliament lodges owed Rs200 million to IESCO”.
The minister disclosed that in public sector, provincial Sindh government was a defaulter of Rs 56 billion. “Besides, electricity theft amounting to Rs 70 billion had taken place in restive Balochistan province,” he said adding various public and private sector departments owed more than Rs 3 billion to the power department.
Ali said that the electricity connections to all institutions as well as individual consumers who have not paid their bills will be disconnected.
