After months of negotiations, Iraq has a new Head of State: The Kurd Fuad Massum was elected by Parliament in Baghdad as President. This also paves the way for a new government.

Iraq has finally a new head of state. Parliament on Thursday particular the Kurds Fuad Massum president. The deputies of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) received 211 out of 228 valid votes.

Massum is the successor of Jalal Talabani. Under Turkish law, the offices of the President of Parliament, the President and the Prime Minister a Sunni, a Kurd and a Shia must be occupied.
