Egypt Vs Algeria-the defining atmosphere
The Egypt Algeria game was marred by the incidents prior to the game on Saturday Night where the Algerian coach which was carrying the players was attacked by Egyptian hooligans (click here to see the video of the incodent).
The site was horrific and 3 players of the Algerian team were wounded in which 2 of them were bleeding heavily from the head and face.
Some thought that the game will be cancelled and others thought Egypt may be withdrawn from the competition all together but ultimately the game was played as scheduled on Saturday night though Egypt is expected to receive a hefty punishment.
Come Saterday night and the pressure on the players faces were visible. All of Egypt was tuned in watching the big North African derby, the Stadium packed to the max.
The atmosphere at the stadium was illuminating with every supporter cheering and shouting. There were also very angry words to Algerian football which Egyptians do not like much.
Then the players went on to the field for the warm ups. First it was Algeria and the whistling and boo’s could be heard from miles away. You could not hear yourself speak. The players that were wounded on saturday night could be visible from their bandages on their heads. When the Egypt players came out the boo’s and whistling turned in to cheers and yet again you could not hear yourself speak.
The game started and the pressure was on Algeria. Egypt attacked through out the game and ultimately scored very early in the game. The atmosphere was something to have been seen as it was incredible. The shouting, cheering, crying, the players praying were all things that showed how important this game was to them.
Egypt scored the 2nd goal needed to keep their chances alive of going to the World Cup Finals in South Africa on the 90th minute. Again the crowd went nuts. More then the football played for non supporters it was the atmosphere that was to be remembered.
