Doctors warn tourists about May heat in Greece
Greece is used to lots of sun and high temperatures. However, it rarely gets as warm in spring as it will in the coming days. Doctors have some tips for tourists from northern Europe.
In Greece, unusually high temperatures are expected in May in the coming days. As the Meteorological Office announced on Thursday, the thermometer should show values of around 37 degrees, especially in western and central Greece. Around 35 degrees are also expected on the islands of the Aegean.
The mini-heatwave is expected to last through the weekend. North winds will start on Sunday and temperatures should drop to around 30 degrees, which is normal for the season, meteorologists said on state television.
Doctors on the radio advised wearing loose, light-colored cotton clothing, drinking plenty of water and not drinking alcohol or sugary drinks. This applies above all to tourists from northern Europe, for whom the temperature difference could now be particularly large. The body needs a few days to adapt to the temperatures.
