The new working period of the observers, who already visited 20 cities in 16 regions of Syria, will run from January 24 to February 22, according to a letter sent by Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallen to the AL General Secretariat and published on Wednesday by local media.

Arab League Undersecretary General Ahmad bin Hili affirmed in Cairo that the mission is still working. Regarding the boycott by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), he stressed that “the decision of sending or withdrawing observers is a sovereign option of each country.”

Syria accuses West of interference

Great Britain, France, Germany and Arab nations are already working on a new offensive against Syria that would face Russia’s opposition since it will call on the UN member countries to keep on supporting the sanctions and the new demands from the AL against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, al-Jazeera news agency reported.

At their latest session, which began on Sunday afternoon and ended on early Monday, Qatar and Saudi Arabia could impose a motion, at the Arab League Ministerial Council, demanding President Bashar al-Assad to resign and hand over governing power to his vice president, so that he can form an interim government and call elections.

Syrian authorities rejected such a demand, which they consider to be an open violation of national sovereignty and flagrant interference in Syria’s internal affairs.
