The Iranian Reyhaneh Jabbari is dead. The sentenced for the murder of an ex-employee of the Iranian secret 26-year-old was hanged in the early morning in an Iranian prison. This was announced by the uncle Jabbaris . The AP news agency reported, citing the state agency IRNA also of their execution.
On Friday, the parents of the candidate for death had surprisingly got a call, they should say goodbye to her daughter. According Jabbaris uncle, the family was admitted three hours of the 26-year-olds. The exact location of the death sentence the prison staff did therefore not tell – presumably for fear of protests. Early Saturday morning the parents Jabbaris received again a call. You could pick up the body of her daughter.
The case of the young woman had caused international horror. In 2007, the then 19-year-old Jabbari had been lured by the former intelligence official Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi under a pretext in an apartment. There, he had attacked and tried to rape, Jabbari said. In self-defense she had injured him with a knife and had then fled. She called an ambulance, but died Sarbandi.
Jabbari was arrested, 2009, she was convicted of murder. Human rights organizations and the UN criticized the violent methods. There have been no fair trial. For example, condoms and drugs were found at the scene. The US State Department stepped in, last EU Parliament President Martin Schulz had in a letter to his counterpart Ali Larijani called for a new process for Jabbari – without success.
Only the family Sarbandis could cancel the execution. Under Iranian law, the “Kisa”, the retaliation law on the principle of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, they might pardon Jabbari. The Sarbandis however, had required her to withdraw the rape allegations to establish the glory of the father again. The Jabbari had rejected to the last.
