Afghan Defence Minister General Bismillah Khan Muhammadi Monday said defence cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan should increase.
Islamabad, Jan 28/Nationalturk: After continuously accusing Pakistan of supporting Taliban and Haqqani network, Afghan Defence Minister General Bismillah Khan Muhammadi Monday stressed that defence cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan should increase.
According to Pakistan’s official news agency, APP, Afghanistan defence minister General Bismillah Khan Muhammadi called on Pakistani army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani at General Headquarters, Rawalpindi today.
Khan led a delegation from Afghanistan, which included Major General Afzal Aman, Director General Military Operations, Major General Abdul Manan Farahi, Director General Military Intelligence and Investigation, Major General Payanda Mohammad Nazim, Inspector General Training and Major General Aminullah Karim, Commandant National Defence College Afghanistan.
Two sides discussed mutual defence cooperation
The APP quoting Pakistan’ army’s statement said Afghanistan Defence Minister and Pakistan army chief discussed matters of professional interest, with particular focus on enhancing mutual defence cooperation and measures that Afghan National Army and Pakistan Army intend initiating for an enduring training relationship.
The operationalization of recently concluded agreement on Tripartite Border Standing Operating Procedures was also discussed in detail. The agreement is aimed at improving existing security cooperation and intelligence sharing mechanisms, on both sides of the Pak-Afghan border,” it said.
Meanwhile, Afghan defence minister said it was important to increase defence cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
“Afghanistan would continue to seek guidance from Pakistan in its defence-related matters,” he said.
Afghanistan defence minister and Pakistan army chief agreed on cooperation between the countries in order to fight terrorism.
It is pertinent to mention here that Afghanistan has been accusing Pakistan of supporting Taliban militant and Haqqani network. It had accused Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI of fomenting trouble in the country.
