Transfer News – David Villa has been transferred to Barcelona for a reported £34.2M (40M Euros) from Valencia.
Villa was a long term target of many Spanish and European teams especially, Manchester United, Manchester City, Inter Milan, Juventus, Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid were after the 28-year-old goal machine.
It has been reported that the Spanish International has signed a four year contract with the Catalan side who were champions of La Liga this season.
David Villa will be arriving at Barcelona
David Villa will be arriving at Barcelona on Thursday and will go through a medical. It was reported that Villa, Euro 2008’s top goal scorer had turned down a deal from Manchester City which will earn him 20M Euros a year to stay in Spain.
Valencia president, Manuel Llorente, on Wednesday morning said “We have sold David Villa to Barcelona FC for 40 million Euros, as everyone knows we could have done this deal last year but we thought at that moment it was best to keep our squad together to try and get into the Champions League.”
“We have achieved that aim and finished third in the league, and he (Villa) has contributed a lot towards this. We think it is a good sale and necessary for the economic situation of the club.”
It is expected for David Villa to make a big impact on the international arena at the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which is probably why teams from all over Europe were eager for his transfer him before the competition.
David Villa’s transfer has already led to speculations about the future of Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Henry played very little in the Barcelona side this season while Ibrahimovic scored a total of 21 goals for Barcelona in all competitions which was far below expectations when he first transferred to Barcelona from Inter Milan.
villa plays good at spain..
so i think barca have made a right decision..
EDIT: i meant henry is a true barca player.
amazing deal for barca, i would sell ibra, i dont like him, he doesn’t go well with barca. i know henry is getting old but he is a true barca play, ibra just doesn’t fit with the 1 touch system.
Too bad,for the competition is over for the others
this is a very good move for barca.. ibra doesnt fit the style at barca and with Villa they should win everything next.. Villa is one of the best scorer out there right now and barca got him for a very good price
