Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron has confronted Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez over the Falklands at G20 in Mexico.

The UK prime minister David Cameron collated the Argentinian president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner about their Falklands Islands contention suggesting to her that her last remonstrations, notably at the UN recent week, were objectionable.

Argentinian president Cristina Fernandez  has tried to present David Cameron a package marked ‘ UN – Malvinas ‘ but the UK prime minister rejected to accept it. The prime minister told president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner that she should respect democracy of islanders who are taking part in a referendum on the point of control.

David Cameron approximated to president Fernandez and told her : ‘ I am not proposing a full discussion now on the Falklands but I hope you have noted that they are holding a referendum and you should respect their views. We should believe in self determination and act as democrats here in the G20 ‘ and he walked out. After this words Argentinian president did not try to hand him the letter second time.

Relations between Britain and Argentina are in the deep freeze. In the last few days the Falkland Islands marked thirty years since the end of the war with Argentina with a service at Liberation Monument. It followed a service at Port Stanley’s cathedral to recollect the UK’s liberation of the United Kingdom territory from Argentine occupation in June 1982. Buenos Aires has sought to use the 30th anniversary of the war to recall it is claim on the islands it calls the Malvinas.

UK prime minister has commented : ‘ I just think it was an important conversation to have. This referendum is something of a game-changer for the issue and I think it’s good it’s coming about. It is an important point to make to the Argentine president and an important point to make more widely and that’s exactly why I did what I did. ‘

In David Cameron’s speech to a business audience in summit venue Los Cabos in Mexico, the prime minister marked out Argentina for criticism for protectionist trade measures which he identified as one of the 5 key threats to the world economy.

In the end of the conference British politician summarized : ‘ We all know that keeping the world economy open, keeping the trade rules fair, is absolutely vital for all our countries. And frankly, the G20 should be setting an example, not providing an example for the world not to follow. ‘
