Cupra brings three new models
Seat’s subsidiary Cupra is going full throttle: the Spaniards have presented three models. Whether it’s a small city runabout, crossover or SUV – all three newcomers are available with at least a hybrid drive or purely electric.
And the parent brand? Have to be patient.
With its radically sporty image, Cupra has now successfully separated itself from Seat. Even though the SUV Cupra Ateca and the sports station wagon Cupra Leon are still based on the mother’s current large-scale production models, the first independent Formentor model has already shown where the journey is headed in the future: even sportier, even more radically designed. Another example is the Cupra Born, which is based on the ID.3 from VW but still comes with a special design, both inside and out.
These are the three new ones
So now three more vehicles that are to continue the independent path of the brand.
The first candidate: the 4.50 meter long SUV Terramar. Available both with classic combustion engines and with a plug-in hybrid, it is intended to stir up the segment of its sister company, the VW Tiguan. The Spaniards promise an electric range of 100 kilometers for the hybrid.
The Cupra Tavascan will follow in 2024. The crossover is intended to conquer new markets for the brand and is purely electric.
Number three is the Curpa UrbanRebel. Intended for urban areas, the brother of the VW ID.1/ID.2, with recycled plastics and bio-based materials, is intended to appeal to customers who want to drive in a sporty but environmentally conscious manner. The study now shown has 226 hp and comes up to 440 kilometers with one battery charge. The current series Leon, Formentor and Born should get at least one facelift by 2025.
And seats? At the traditional Spanish brand from which Cupra emerged, nothing is happening in terms of electric drive apart from hybridization. The British magazine “Autocar” quotes Seat development director Werner Tietz as saying that electrification is initially reserved for Cupra due to the high costs.
