After successful screenings at Michigan, Miami, Los Angeles and several cities in Europe and Africa, Cuban Ian Padron will present, for the first time, his film Habanastation in New York, to open the 13th Havana Film Festival, on 12 April.
The film, one of 12 competing at the event which is dedicated to the Cuban-films, will be presented by its director and its main actress Blanca Rosa Blanco.
Padron told Prensa Latina that it is an honor to be chosen to open the festival, which is going to be an exciting moment, the director added, who will attend the three screenings scheduled.
It is the fourth time Padron is participating in the event film, in which debuted in 2002 with his short Motos. “The festival has worked for many years towards the boost of Latin American cinema, particularly Cuban cinema. It is a huge honor to be there”, he said.
When asked about the success with his debut film since its premiere in 2011, Padron said that the most impressive is the connection that engages the audience anywhere in the world.
He said that his greatest achievement is that the audience feels identified with the topic of the film; “we have to try to make a cinema Cuban and universal at the same time. I think that Habanastation fulfilled that goal”, he said.
