Cranes are back in Yüksekova after 30 years

Cranes that went back to Hakkari’s Yüksekova district after 30 years surprised the citizens.

While the Nehil Marshes, known as the ‘bird paradise’ in Yüksekova District of Hakkari, are home to dozens of bird species, birds have started to come through migration.

Crane, which is one of the tens of migratory bird species, as it is every year, was seen in a flock on the snow on the plain.

Its population is threatened

The crane bird, a large, long-legged, short-tailed bird whose population is under threat, was seen in Yüksekova after 30 years, causing both joy and surprise.

Stating that he saw such clear cranes for the first time in years, a citizen named Şerafettin Barut said, “This year, the biggest surprise was the cranes that came in flock. This is very gratifying. After 30 years, they are in Yüksekova in a herd and now they are waiting. The most interesting part is that they do not avoid people even though they are so close.”
