The condition of Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir, who escaped assassination bid on Saturday, is improving.

Islamabad, April 21/Nationalturk – The condition of Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir, who was injured in an assassination bid on Saturday, is improving and he has regained consciousness.

Unknown assailants had fired on the car of Hamid Mir, senior Pakistani journalist associated with Pakistan TV news channel Geo News, on Saturday evening. Mir had received six bullet injuries.

He was immediately shifted to hospital, where he was operated by a team of doctors.

The doctors treating him said after underwent successful operation, Mir is recovering. “He regained consciousness this morning. Mir is expected to be shifted to a private room at the hospital, where he is being treated”.

According to the medical report, Hamid Mir was shot six times.

Quoting the medial report, Geo News said Hamid Mir was shot six times. “One bullet hit him in the ribs under the arm, one in stomach, one grazed his hand while two pierced his thigh on the front and one on the back of the thigh which doctors have not been able to remove as it is lodged in the bone.”

It said doctors will take a decision regarding removing the lodged bullet after further examinations.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had yesterday convened a high level security meet to review the situation following attack on Hamid Mir.

Judicial inquiry ordered into attack

Sharif ordered a judicial inquiry into the attack and decided to constitute three-member judicial commission to probe the murder attempt on Hamid Mir.

The government also announced a reward of Rs10 million for any information leading to the arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has approved the name of three Supreme Court judges for the judicial commission to probe the attack on Hamid Mir.

The three judges approved for the commission are Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman and Justice Ejaz Afzal.

The commission has been asked to submit its report in three-weeks.
