A 20-year-old girl student died after being gangraped and set on fire by the rapists in India.

New Delhi, July 12/Nationalturk- In yet another incident of sexual assault on women, a 20-year-old girl student was gangraped and set on fire by the rapists in India. The victim died in the hospital later.

“A young man, who was known to the 20-year-old college girl, had invited her to his home on Tuesday. When the girl visited his house, she was overpowered by three to four men, who were waiting for her,” officials said pleading anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media.

They said the accused allegedly gangraped the college student.  “When the girl resisted and threatened to report the matter to the police, the accused allegedly set her on fire by pouring kerosene on her”.

Victim suffered burn injuries, died in hospital

She suffered critical burn injuries and was rushed to hospital, where she succumbed to injuries last evening.

The girl’s family members accused police of not initially registering their complaint. “They only registered the complaint after our continued pleas and requests”.

They have demanded a thorough probe into the incident and stern punishment to the accused.

The girl’s sister said she was in love with the man who allegedly raped her. “He called her. She went because she trusted him. She came back running and was on fire,” she alleged.

Police have registered a murder and rape case and started investigations.

A police official said the victim had named the man in her statement and a case has been registered against him and his relatives.

He said police was investigating the case and the guilty will be booked.
