A  Christian lawmaker was shot dead by his body guard in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province.

Islamabad, June 14/Nationalturk –  A  Christian lawmaker in Pakistan was shot dead by his body guard in Quetta, capital of restive Balochistan province, on Saturday.

Security officials said lawmaker Handery Masieh, 35, was shot twice in his neck and chest outside his residence by his body guard in Quetta, capital of restive Balochistan province today.

They said he was shifted to a nearby hospital, where he passed away.

“His nephew was also injured in the attack,” they said adding the accused security guard fled from the scene and a manhunt has been launched to track him down.

Handery was lawmaker of Balochistan Assembly and belonged to National Party.

He was elected to the Balochistan Assembly on a reserved seat for minorities from the NM-65 constituency.

“A bitter exchange of words between the nephew of the law maker and the accused security guard resulted in Masieh’s killing,” Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Durrani was quoted as saying by Pakistan newspaper, Express Tribune.

‘Bodyguard was handpicked by Handery’

The official said Handery was trying to play the mediator when his security guard fire on him.

The newspaper quoted officials as saying that the accused security guard was one of four guards provided to the lawmaker MPA by the government.

“The security guard was handpicked by Handery. In fact, he was an old associate of Handery, who was serving in an NGO established 10 years  before he bacame a lawmaker”.

Officials have ruled out possibility of any militant organizations involvement in the killing.

Various political parties and civil society groups have condemned the lawmaker’s killing.
