China has ruled out summit level talks with Japan in near future to ease tensions between the two countries.
New Delhi, July 30/Nationalturk- Amid continued tension on disputed Diaoyu Islands, China has ruled out possibility of summit level talks with Japan in near future to ease tensions between the two countries.
China’s State news agency Xinhua quoted an unnamed government official as saying that there was no possibility of summit levels talks between heads of States of China and Japan.
Earlier, Isao Iijima, a close adviser to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said on Sunday that Japanese PM Abe could hold a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping soon.
He had said that his assumption was based on his four-day visit to Beijing in mid-July during which he met several prominent figures in China.
However, Chinese unnamed government official said Iijima did not meet any top Chinese government officials during his four-day visit to the country.
“His visit to China was mainly to discuss his tour of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and there was no consultation between the two sides on a leaders’ meeting,” he said.
Chinese Foreign ministry in a brief statement said Iijima has not conducted official activities during his visit to China, and Chinese officials were not in contact with him.
China, Japan relations hit by dispute over Diaoyu islands
The relations between Asia’s two biggest economies – China and Japan – have been hit due to dispute over the Diaoyu Islands. Both the countries claim the island.
Observers said the earliest date for a meeting between Chinese President Xi and Japanese PM Abe might be the G20 leaders’ Summit in St Petersburg, Russia on Sept 5-6. However, it remains to be seen whether the two leaders can meet and hold discussions on their relationship.
