The crisis in Fenerbahçe is continuing from last seasons final match shocker as the Turkish giants are eliminated from the Champions League by Switzerland side BSC Young Boys in just the third round after losing 1-0.
Fenerbahçe SK have been eliminated from the Champions League by Swiss club Young Boys in just the third round after a very poor performance which has shocked the club and their supporters after losing 1-0 at home.
Fenerbahçe were already suffering from a shock 2-2 draw a week earlier in the first leg of their third round Champions League match after conceding a goal in the last minutes which proved to be decisive for the Swiss side. But the Fenerbahçe Vs Young Boys game came as a huge shocker as the Turkish giants lost 1-0.
Just to perceive the level of play of both teams, Fenerbahçe SK is ranked 32nd in the World Club rankings by the IFFHS, an organization recognized by FIFA where as BSC Young Boys are ranked at 274th position.
Another important point is that Daniel Guiza, The Spanish International and record signing of Fenerbahçe who cost a reported 14 million Euro and gets 3.5 million Euro in wages a year is nearly the total worth of Young Boys.
The irony of the whole matter is that, Daniel Guiza played no part in both games against Young Boys.
The fans also were unhappy, very very unhappy. Many Fenerbahçe fans had entered the Şükrü Saraçoğlu stadium hoping or believing their super star team compared to Young Boys will demolish the Swiss side.
They were wrong, just under three months after the devastating effects of a phantom championship celebration which lasted for a few minutes but caused a storm of controversy, 6 months after chairman Aziz Yıldırım promised three championships in a row and the seemingly impassionate form of the teams players, Fenerbahçe fans were once again heartbroken.
And what else could they do, they screamed at the chairman and board members to “resign”, too many broken promises and really bad performances.
The Young Boys game I have not spoken much of. But the fact of the matter is, just as the first leg Champions League third round clash between Young Boys Vs Fenerbahçe, the second leg was as disappointing, only for the Fener fans.
Young Boys had attacked and controlled the game for the majority of the 90 minutes in which the pressure must have gotten to the Fenerbahçe players as again a player receive a red card.
Miroslav “Miňo” Stoch, the former Chelsea player who transferred to Fenerbahçe this season received a second yellow after diving and was sent off on the 55th minute.
Aykut Kocaman the new Fenerbahçe coach had all eyes on him, last year the price of the missed championship and Turkish Cup was paid by German manger Christoph Daum.
Despite what Chairman Aziz Yıldırım said after the phantom championship as he took full responsibility for the heartbreak and failure of the club, we can see that the price was paid by Daum and we can also see that the problem is not with the manager but forces which are less in the face of the media.
Fenerbahçe will now continue their European campaign in the Uefa Europa League where fellow Super League sides Beşiktaş and Galatasaray are competing in
