Now Cameron Diaz describes why she needed distance from Hollywood.
Cameron Diaz was one of the most sought-after actresses in the world, especially around the turn of the millennium. But after her role in the musical adaptation “Annie” in 2014, the Californian suddenly became quiet. She turned her back on the film industry and stopped accepting engagements.
At the end of June came the surprise: Oscar winner Jamie Foxx made it public that Cameron Diaz was making a comeback after an eight-year break. At his side, she will be in front of the camera for the Netflix film, aptly titled “Back in Action”.
“Let me just take a step back”
On the TV show “CBS Mornings”, the “Charlie’s Angels” actress has now revealed why she took such a long break. “When you’re doing something that you know and have done well and you know how it works and that’s taken your whole life for so long, it’s a beautiful thing to say, ‘You know what? Let me just step back and take a look at how the bigger picture looks to me,'” she says. “What are the things I could do better and engage with more to make myself feel more whole?”
What she’s been busy with: She had a daughter in 2019 with her husband Benji Madden. And she launched her own brand of wine, Avaline. “Everyone only has one hundred percent and you always have to think about how to divide it in order to distribute it to all areas of life that are important,” says the 49-year-old about her changed priorities.
But she missed acting in the eight years. “I miss aspects of acting or filmmaking,” Diaz said. “Making films is a special challenge.” It’s fun to be able to take part.
