A private jet has crashed into the hangar of Santa Monica Airport shortly after landing, bursting into flames and killing all passengers on board.
Officials said there could be no survivors after the twin-engine Cessna Citation veered off the runway and hit the hangar, which also caught fire and collapsed.
An official with Morley Construction said the company’s CEO and his son were believed to have been on board.
A statement issued by the company said: “We are aware of a plane crash at Santa Monica Airport last night. While we do not have specific facts, we believe that our President and CEO, Mark Benjamin, and his son, Luke Benjamin, a Senior Project Engineer with us were on board.”
Santa Monica Fire Department Captain John Nevandro said: “This was an unsurvivable crash.”
Rescuers and investigators have been working at the scene amid the smouldering wreckage.
The jet had taken off from Hailey, Idaho, and landed in Santa Monica on Sunday evening.
The blaze caused minor damage to two other buildings and destroyed the hangar.
The neighbourhoods surrounding the airport are densely populated and officials said that, had the plane not hit the hangar, it would have likely slammed into homes.
The airport in Hailey serves Idaho’s Sun Valley resort area, which is a frequent destination for many celebrities.
