Bursaspor president detained in ongoing embezzlement investigation
Turkish League side Bursaspor Chairman İbrahim Yazıcı and a member of the club’s executive board were detained after an issued arrest warrant as part of an ongoing embezzlement probe concerning the sports club.
Bursaspor Vice Chairman Haluk Özkıyıcı, Bursaspor TV General Director Mehmet Gerçeksi, Bursaspor’s legal counsel Öztürk Yazıcı, club lawyer Jale Demir and accountant Sema Çavuşoğlu were also detained on Thursday in an operation carried out by the Bursa Police Department’s Financial Crimes Bureau. They were referred to a court after their interrogation by police and an arrest warrant was issued for İbrahim Yazici and Saltan. They two surrendered to police early on Friday.
İbrahim Yazici began his second spell at presidency for Bursaspor in 2009, the following 2009-2010 season saw Bursaspor winning its first Turkish Super League title. İbrahim Yazici was a deputy to the parliament in 1996-2002 for two consecutive parliamentary periods.
Meanwhile, an arrest warrant and a travel ban have also been issued for former Bursaspor Deputy Chairman Osman Çelik. The Bursaspor President along with other names are expected to give their defensive statements and then will be referred to the office of the attorney general for further questioning.
