Andre Braugher, known for his roles in shows like “Homicide” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” has died at the age of 61. Braugher died on Monday after a short illness, reports “The Hollywood Reporter”, citing the actor’s spokeswoman, Jennifer Allen.
Andre Braugher played one of the main roles in the crime series “Homicide” between 1993 and 1998 with Frank Pembleton. For this he received an Emmy nomination in 1996 and won the award in 1998. He played another police officer, Captain Raymond Holt, in the sitcom “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” from 2013 to 2021. He was nominated for an Emmy four times for this role. Andre Braugher previously won his second Emmy for his performance in the 2006 miniseries “Thief.”
The 61-year-old was probably working on a yet unfinished project. Andre Braugher was cast in February as the male lead in Shonda Rhimes’ Netflix drama series “The Residence,” in which he was set to star opposite Uzo Aduba. Production had already begun, but was temporarily stopped due to the Hollywood double strike of screenwriters and actors. Andre Braugher had reportedly already completed filming many of his scenes for the series, with work set to resume in January. What will happen next with the project is still unclear.
“We will miss you”
Countless fans said goodbye to him on his Instagram profile. “I had to cry. Rest in peace, you were incredible,” wrote one follower. “I can’t realize it… Thank you for making me laugh in my darkest hours,” another commented. “We will miss you so much,” read another comment.
Andre Braugner leaves behind, among other things, his wife Ami Brabson, who is also an actress and appeared in various shows such as “Homicide”. The couple had been married for over 30 years and tied the knot in 1991. They have three now grown sons together. Their eldest son Michael followed in his parents’ footsteps and is in front of the camera himself – his younger brothers Isaiah and John stay largely out of the public eye.
