A 24-year-old British tourist was found murdered inside a houseboat in the world famous Dal Lake in Indian administered Kashmir on Saturday.

Srinagar, April 6/Nationalturk – In the first incident of its kind in Indian Kashmir, a 24-year-old British tourist was found murdered inside a houseboat in the world famous Dal Lake in the region on Saturday morning.  Police have arrested a Dutch tourist suspected to have committed the murder.

“A 24-year-old British national Sara Elizabeth was found murdered in a local houseboat in Dal Lake, Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir this morning. She was found in a pool of blood inside her room in the houseboat,” a police official said.

He said the preliminary investigations had revealed that the British tourist was murdered.

Her clothes were torn: Police

The official said police suspect that the victim might have been raped before being killed as her clothes were torn.

“A 43-year-old Dutch tourist Davit Rechord , who was staying in another room of the same houseboat, is suspected to have killed the British tourist. He was arrested at Qazigund, some 75 kms South of Srinagar the summer capital of Srinagar on Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only link road connecting Kashmir with rest of the world,” he said.

He said the Dutch national had left behind his belongings in the house boat and was carrying passport only. “Perhaps  after committing the crime, the Dutch tourist had planned his escape and was trying to level the region. However, after suspecting his role, we sounded alert on highway and airport and managed to arrest him from Qazigund”.

The official said  FSL experts have collected samples from the houseboat and body of the British woman was sent for postmortem.
