In a major setback to India, British Prime Minister David Cameron has said his country will not hand over the giant 105-carat Kohinoor diamond to India.
New Delhi, Feb 21: In a major setback to Indian efforts to seek return of 105-carat Kohinoor diamond from United Kingdom, British Prime Minister David Cameron has said that his country will not hand over the giant diamond to India, India’s newspaper Times of India has reported.
“I don’t think that’s the right approach,” Cameron, who is presently on a visit to India, told reporters yesterday in Indian city of Amritsar when asked whether United Kingdom will return the 105-carat Kohinoor diamond to India.
He said the right answer is for the British Museum and other cultural institutions to do exactly what they do, which is to link up with other institutions around the world to make sure that the things which we have and look after so well are properly shared with people around the world. “I certainly don’t believe in returnism, as it were. I don’t think that’s sensible,” he said.
Kohinoor diamond is now on display in Tower of London
The 105-carat Kohinoor diamond, which was forcibly taken by British rulers from India during colonial era, is now on display in the Tower of London. The diamond had been set in the crown of the current Queen Elizabeth’s late mother. Britain’s then colonial governor-general of India arranged for the huge diamond to be presented to Queen Victoria in 1850.
It is said to be one of the world’s largest diamonds and Indian leaders have been continuously demanding its return to country.

The most precious kohinoor jewel should be return to India the country where God have been lived. British PM should feel sorry to indian PM for forcible taking kohinoor. Only country like Britain steals other country’s jewels.
KohiNoor- ‘presented to Queen Victoria’??????? correction – it was stolen. Maharaja Dalip Singh was coerced into parting with it, manipulated by the British/ sir John Login & cronies. Never presented!
