President Zuma will face off with Mr. Motlanthe in the ANC leadership.

Pretoria/NationalTurk – News from the Republic of South Africa indicates that President Jacob Zuma will face a challenge for the leadership of the African National Congress next week from his deputy, Kgalema Motlanthe.

The African National Congress founded in 1912 is believed to be the biggest political party on the African Continent and has ruled the Republic of South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994.

Mr. Motlanthe’s spokesman Thabo Masebe told local reporters that Mr. Motlanthe had accepted his nomination to stand as the leader of the African National Congress ANC in the up coming conference of the party to be held next week.

Mr. Masebe said his boss was motivated to contest for the ANC leadership after being nominated by branch executives.

“He’s always said branches must be given a chance to express their free will in this democratic dispensation” Mr. Masebe said.

“He has accepted to contest President Zuma and nobody should read meaning into it since is part of the democratic credentials of people to stand in contest of political power’’, Mr. Masebe concluded.

President Zuma is believed to have received most nominations but his critics say he has failed to tackle South Africa’s problems and the internal affairs of the party especially the youth wing.

Political analyst in South Africa predict that whoever gets the opportunity to lead the African National Congress into the in 2014 elections in South Africa is favorite to win the elections.

The African National Congress will hold the leadership elections at its conference in Mangaung which will start on this weekend Sunday.

All eyes will be watching as the leader and his deputy battle it out in the conference to elect who leads the party to the 2014 elections in South Africa
