“Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston is almost unrecognizable
Did the series star want to be an incognito guest at the Tony Awards in New York on Sunday night? Could have almost worked because Bryan Cranston was difficult to identify. It was the bushy beard.
Bryan Cranston caused a surprise at the Tony Awards ceremony in New York on Sunday evening. The actor appeared at the event with a thick, long beard. The face of the 66-year-old, who strolled down the red carpet with his wife Robin Dearden, was barely visible underneath.
Cranston’s facial hair was also a topic on stage at the awards ceremony. For the presentation of one of the Tony trophies, the series star came upstairs and chatted with fellow Tony Goldwyn. According to US media reports, the latter joked: “Can we please get to work so you can look for your lost razor blade again?”

However, Bryan Cranston with a beard is not at all unusual. That this is so long and dense comes as a surprise. The actor, best known for his roles as Hal in Malcolm in the Middle and Walter White in Breaking Bad, has also gone clean-shaven. For the characters he portrays, Cranston repeatedly undergoes noticeable visual changes. In “Breaking Bad”, for example, he was seen bald from the second season.
Cranston himself has twice been honored on the Tony Awards stage. He won the most important American theater and musical award for “Best Actor” for “All The Way” and for “Network”. He is also a multiple Emmy and Golden Globe winner and was nominated for an Oscar for his title role in “Trumbo.”
