One of Brazil’s most famous professional footballers has been charged with the murder of his mistress.
Bruno Souza, who is goalkeeper and captain of Flamengo, one of Brazil’s best known teams has been formerly charged with the murder of his ex-lover.
Bruno who gave himself up to the Brazilian police earlier in the month after an arrest warrant was issued for the 25-year-old goalkeeper while police investigated the murder of his ex-lover, Eliza Samudio.
It is alleged that Samudio, who was a model and actress had demanded child support for her four-month-old baby who she alleged to be fathered by Souza.
Bruno Souza who is married and father of two also confirmed that he had a fling with the 25-year-old woman but denied he was the father of the child.
Samudio had met with the footballer in 2009 during a party where the pair had a fling and the 25-year-old woman had allegedly become pregnant by Souza.
The model had previously complained to the officials that she had received threats by the goalkeeper.
The footballer has also been charged with kidnapping, hiding a body, forming a criminal gang and corrupting minors after a key witness for the case, Souza’s 17-year-old cousin had said that he was present when the model had been kidnapped and murdered at Souza’s second home in Belo Horizonte six hours drive from Rio de Janeiro.
It was also speculated that the footballer had asked a former police officer, Marcos Aparecido dos Santos, a friend of Souza, to kill the new mother after she was brutally beaten by the pair.
She was then cut into pieces and fed to dogs while other parts of her body were allegedly buried under concrete.
Samudio’s body was never found but blood stains were retrieved from the car of Souza which belonged to the model.
The four-month-old baby of the model was also found with the wife of Souza who along with six others were also charged with connection to the murder of the model.
Souza was also a transfer target of European giants, AC Milan and Porto but the murder allegations towards the 25-year-old had thrown away any interest.
The career of the 25-year-old is also in tatters after his club Flamengo, stopped selling the goalkeepers shirts and had pulled away their lawyers until the case was resolved.
The Souza was even heard saying while behind bars that his “chance of playing for Brazil in the 2014 World Cup” was over.
