Last night over 700 meters of hillside rubble, mud and rocks fell onto 50 homes causing 182 deaths, and that toll is expected to rise.

The homes hit by the landslide were in the poor region also known as the Slum of the Latin American country.

The local fire chief, Pedro Machado said “In our experience, it’s instant death for those caught in their homes at the time”.

There are also warnings of new landslides in the area as the soil is still saturated making the conditions ideal for the natural disaster.

Rescue teams were seen rushing to the area to help the people caught up on the path slide, and worked throughout the night with the aid of flood lights to find more survivors as survivors were desperately waiting for good news from loved ones.

The rescue workers are also under great risk and are working with cautions as the mountains over head of the town can give way to further landslides.

Help was already deployed to the survivors with 70,000 packs containing cloths, medical supplies and food as the majority of the survivors are left homeless.

Local authorities are requesting $200 M dollars from the Brazilian government as rebuilding plans for the people left homeless by the devastating slides can get under way as soon as the rescue works are finished.
