Two Pakistan army men were killed and four others injured in IED blast triggered by terrorists in quake-hit area of restive Balochistan province on Wednesday.

Islamabad, Oct 2/Nationalturk- Two Pakistan army men were killed and four others injured in blast triggered by terrorists in quake-hit area of restive Balochistan province on Wednesday. It is yet another attempt by terrorists to hamper relief operations undertaken by government and army in quake-hit areas.

“An army convoy, which was involved in relief work in quake-hit areas and was heading to Mangori area from Mashkey tehsil in Awaran district of Balochistan when terrorists detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on the road,” official sources said.

They said two soldiers were killed and four others injured in the powerful IED blast. “The injured were shifted to Awaran District Hospital for treatment”.

Immediately after the blast, army and paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers laid siege around the area to flush out the militants responsible for the IED blast.

Hundreds of Pakistani soldiers involved in relief operation

Hundreds of Pakistani soldiers are taking part in relief and rescue operation in Awaran and other quake-hit areas in Balochistan, where over 400 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in by 7.8 tremor on September 24. Another earthquake of 7.2-magnitude on Richter scale caused further damage when it struck the area on September 28.

The militants have targeted the doctors, civil officials, Pakistan army officers and men involved in rescue work in Awaran and other quake-hit areas of Balochistan.

Two Pakistan army generals escaped unhurt on September 26  when the chopper they were travelling in was attacked with rockets by militants. The rockets, however, missed the target and exploded on road.

CM’s convoy was attacked on September 30

On September 30, a convoy of Chief Minister of Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch had also come under rocket attack in quake-hit Awaran when he was on his way to the area to inspect relief efforts.

The continuous militant attacks on government and army men and officials involved in relief works is likely to hamper the relief operation, which is already slow.

Awaran is considered one of the most troubled districts of Balochistan and terrorists are active in the district. “It was very risky to carry out relief operations in the area,” security officials have said.
