Turkish club Besiktas narrowly defeated English team Tottenham Hotspur 1-0, a game played at Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on Thursday.
The win took the Black Eagles to the knockout stage of the Europa League competition. In the 8th minute, a lighting problem occurred at Ataturk Olympic Stadium, so the game was temporarily suspended.
Home team Besiktas took the lead when their Turkish striker Cenk Tosun found the net in the 59th minute of the game. Black Eagles’ attacking midfielder Olcay Sahan passed the ball to Cenk in the box and he scored at close range.
In the 68th minute, Besiktas midfielder Kerim Frei missed a great one on a chance. Both Besiktas and Tottenham advanced to knockout stage in Europa League.
Trabzonspor qualify for Last 32 in Europa League
Trabzonspor lost to their Polish opponents Legia Warsaw by 2-0 in the Europa League match at Wojska Polskiego Stadium in Warsaw on Thursday night.
Visitor Trabzonspor’s goalkeeper Fatih Ozturk scored an own goal in the first half, and Legia took the lead. Portuguese forward Orlando Sa sealed the victory by scoring second goal for his teamLegia Warsaw in the 56th minute.
Trabzonspor’s Turkish midfielder Mehmet Ekici was sent off in the injury time after making a hard tackle on his opponent.
Trabzonspor managed to advance to the knockout stage in Europa League, despite losing against the group leader Legia Warsaw.
