Premier League footballer and Manchester United ace Dimitar Berbatov has fled his native country Bulgaria after threats from the Bulgarian Mafia to kidnap his wife and baby daughter unless he paid £500,000 as a protection fee.
The former Tottenham wonder kid and Bulgarian International is reported to have made a deal with the Bulgarian underworld and then fled Sofia where he was staying with his family.
Manchester United player who was transferred from Tottenham Hotspur for £30 million is reported to have flown with his family to the UK with a private jet ordered by manger Sir Alex Ferguson. Manchester United has also increased security at Berbatov’s home.
Berbatov, went to Sofia, Bulgaria with his family when he heard his mother got the threat 10 days ago.
It is believed that Berbatov did not report to the police after he was told by people linked to the underworld that the Bulgarian Internal Affairs ministry were all in on the deal.
