Belgium police have raided the headquarters of the Belgian Catholic Church and the home of the recently retired Archbishop Godfried Danneels as part of a suspected child sex-abuse investigation.
This is the latest of a series of accusations which the Roman Catholic Church must deal with that coincided with a meeting of bishops which the Vatican’s ambassador to Belgium was also present at.
A spokesman for Brussels prosecutors told AFP “Within the context of a recent investigation, prosecutors have been informed of accusations denouncing abuse of minors committed by a certain number of Church figures,”
On Thursday, Belgium police were witnessed carrying dozens of boxes from Godfried Danneels office and St. Rombout Cathedral in Mechlin, Northern Brussels.
An estimated 30 officers took part in the operation which Jean-Marc Meilleur describes as a raid to find any data to back up the claims against the former archbishop.
On April 26, Belgium’s longest-serving bishop, Roger Vangheluwe, resigned after admitting to having sexually abused a young boy.
Private Flemish TV channel VTM reported that Godfried Danneels was also brought to the site of the investigations.
It was also reported that the data held by the independent commission was expected to have been passed over to police officials, but this was not the case as the investigation had gone very public.
Belgium’s Roman Catholic Church had been faced with some of the worst Pedophilia accusations which the Vatican faced in April where it was alleged that Pope Benedict XVI, had covered up child abuse by priests before he was chosen as the Pope.
Another major bşow for the Vatican was when the longest serving bishop, Roger Vangheluwe,73, had resigned from his position after admitting to sexually abusing a young boy for several years.
Dirk Deville a retired priest has also said that hundreds of cases sexual abuse had been reported to authorities as far back as the 1990’s but only a small proportion came to Danneels’ attention in his 20 years at his position.

it not surprising that this is happening to the catholic. they claim to worship God but in actual fact, they are in it for the money. they own banks, casinoes, and other biz. they are in politics and can even overthrow governments. and so why does one think that these bishops will also stick to the Bible they claim to honor.
the Bible has prophecied that religion will be done away with by the governments as represented by the united nations. who knows whether this is the beginning of their destruction. i dont pity them and infact more countries should take the same action against catjholic and other religions that are fake.
