Deborah James hosted podcasts for the British broadcaster BBC.
She fought colon cancer for five years and had to take a break from work. Now the 40-year-old has died. This was announced by her family via her official Instagram account. James, a “wonderful wife, daughter, sister and mother,” passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
The family added that James was an inspiration “and we are incredibly proud of her and her work and dedication to charitable campaigns, fundraisers and her tireless efforts to raise awareness of cancer that has touched so many lives.” . For the fundraising campaign she launched, James was even awarded the title of “Dame” by Queen Elizabeth II.
“It’s time to say goodbye”
The TV presenter had publicly shared her fight against the disease. It was only at the beginning of May that she gave a sad update on her health: “It’s time to say goodbye,” she posted on her social channels. She is receiving palliative care at home and spending time with her family. “We tried everything, but my body just doesn’t play along anymore,” the moderator explained to her fans.
In the farewell post on Instagram, the authors ended by sharing James’ words: “Find a life worth enjoying; take risks; love deeply; have no regrets; and always, always have a rebellious hope. And lastly : Check your poop – it just might save your life.”

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Dame Deborah James; the most amazing wife, daughter, sister, mummy. Deborah passed away peacefully today, surrounded by her family.
Deborah, who many of you will know as Bowelbabe, was an inspiration and we are incredibly proud of her and her work and commitment to charitable campaigning, fundraising and her endless efforts to raise awareness of cancer that touched so many lives.
Deborah shared her experience with the world to raise awareness, break down barriers, challenge taboos and change the conversation around cancer. Even in her most challenging moments, her determination to raise money and awareness was inspiring.
