Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm may retire in 2018

German football club Bayern Munich’s captain Philipp Lahm has said he is set to retire from football after his contract at the club expires.

Talking to the German press Thursday, the German full-back said he was able to play football at a high level for another three years.

“I don’t want to squeeze out everything until the end. I want to step down with a nice feeling,” the Bayern Munich veteran said.

Referring to the fact that his deal at Bayern Munich will expire in 2018, Lahm remarked: “I’ll be 34 by then. Usually that’s the end. But don’t nail me down to it.”

Lahm spoke about Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola’s future at the club, saying Guardiola should prolong his contact which is due to end in 2016.

Lahm quit Germany’s National Football Team after winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup (Anadolu Agency).
