There is only one King of El Clasico it is also Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo gave lesson to Lionel Messi and Barcelona.
Real Madrid put together a scintillating performance away at the back yard of their fierce rivals Barcelona, as they came up with an emphatic 3-1 victory over the hosts in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals, at the Camp Nou.
Jose Mourinho’s men had a tough task at their hand, as they needed to overcome a 1-1 home draw, but instead it was Barcelona who started off as the brighter side, and it took them only two minutes to create the first real opportunity of the game. Pedro squared a pass to Lionel Messi, but the striker was not able to find the target from a tight angle.
Real Madrid had a perfect reply ready. Ronaldo was just too quick for Gerard Pique who tripped him inside the box, leaving the referee with no choice but to award a penalty. The Portuguese international stepped up himself and slotted the ball calmly in the bottom corner.
The Catalans settled in their traditional style of play dominating the possession, but Jose Mourinho’s men sat confidently in defence giving no room to the hosts to create a chance in front of the goal.
Moments before half-time, half of the stadium was celebrating a goal, before they realized that the ball had side netted from Messi’s free kick.
Just after the restart, the hosts went close again as Diego Lopez was only able to parry away the ball back into the box from Busquets effort, before Arbeloa took the ball off Fabregas from the rebound.
Real Madrid were always threatening on the counter attack, and much like the first half they would punish the Blaugrana again. Sami Khedira released Angel Di Maria after winning the ball as Puyol was left on his backside by the skills of the Argentine. Jose Pinto blocked his Di Maria’s shot, only to be parried back into the path of Ronaldo, who slotted it past Pinto.
With 22 minutes remaining, Madrid landed another to go 3-0 up and 4-1 on aggregate. This time it was their French defender Varane who rose highest in the box to head home from Mesut Ozil’s corner.
The hosts were eventually able to pull one back in the 89th minute, as Alba ran behind the Madrid defence to slot Iniesta’s clipped pass into the back of the net.
But it made little difference to the game, as the damage was long done, as Real Madrid comfortably move into the finals of the Copa del Rey.
