Spanish La Liga club Atletico Madrid’s new partner from China, Wang Jianlin, had declared himself a fan of the team’s Turkish star Arda Turan, according to Spanish media.
Spanish newspaper “El Mundo” said Wang Jianlin had been asked who his favourite player was, and answered; “Arda Turan” without hesitation.
Wang is the third-richest businessman in China, according to Forbes magazine, with assets worth €11.3 billion ($13 billion).
Having purchased 20 percent of the Spanish club’s shares, Wang is reported to be ready to invest about €45 million.
Meanwhile, Atletico board members said: “It took two years to persuade Jianlin, but it was worth it. It is one of the most important deals in club history.”
Wang has also bought one of Picasso’s paintings, entitled; “Claude and Paloma” for €24 million, purchased a building in Madrid for €265 million and also a luxurious yacht for €400 million in 2013.
