The Asia’s largest tulip garden in Indian administered Kashmir will be thrown open for visitors on March 29.

Srinagar, March 25/Nationalturk – The Asia’s largest tulip garden on the banks of world famous Dal Lake in Indian administered Kashmir will be thrown open for visitors on March 29, heralding the arrival of spring.

“The 15-hectare garden in the foothills of Zabarwan range will be thrown open on March 29 for the visitors,” said Indian Kashmir’s tourism minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir.

The Tulip garden, which is the largest fresh flower garden in Asia, had over the years attracted Indian and foreign tourists in large numbers.  The garden has over 1.5 million tulips of different varieties in bloom.

“We have added another 0.324 million bulbs of 24 new varieties this season to make the garden more attractive. These bulbs have been imported from Holland and introduced first time in the region,” an official said.

He said due to the scintillating view of the garden, they are hopeful that large numbers of visitors including Indian and foreign tourists will visit the garden this year too.

Tulip Garden is brainchild of former CM of region

The Tulip garden was opened for public in 2008 by the then Chief Minister of the region Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was the brain behind this floriculture marvel. Azad is presently Indian Health Minister.

Tulips of all types and colours embellish the garden – the opening of which has preponed the tourist season in the valley as people from across the globe throng to Kashmir to see the garden.

Located close to the famous Mughal gardens of Chashma Shahi, Nishat and Shalimar, the Tulip garden is seen as a milestone in making holidays memorable for thousands of domestic and foreign tourists who come to Indian Kashmir every  year to relish its natural beauty.
